Paleri manikyam First report

Renjiths "Paleri Manikyam Oru Pathira Kolapathakathinte Katha" is a different cinema. It has Suspense, Drama, life and Mammootty in three different roles. Another good effort from Renjith, after his creative Production Kerala Cafe. An investigative story visualized in a very different perspective.
The story telling, the characters and the backgrounds are new to Malayalam especially in an investigative suspense thriller. The investigation of Manikyam's murder is the major storyline. The storyline goes like this: Haridas, a private detective, is investigating the murder of a young woman, Manikyam, which happened over 50 years back. But it is different.

Hats off to Mammootty. He is critically outstanding by his performance. All actors specially Sreenivasan, siddique, shwetha menon and all new faces are perfectly rendered to the craftsmanship of Director Renjith.

The film is based on T.P. Rajeevan's novel, by the same name, which was serialised in a Mathrubhumi weekly. Director Renjith was fascinated by the novel's theme, which is based on a true incident that happened shortly before the first ministry of Kerala was sworn in.

Cinematography by Manoj Pillai and Music by Sharreth is in tune with the story.

Produced by A.V. Anoop & Subair under the banner of AVA Productions and Varnachithra Big Screen. PMOPK will be a good treat to serious movie lovers.

Paleri Manikkam postponed!

Mammootty's eagerly awaited Paleri Manikkam, directed by Ranjit which was to be the star’s Bakrid release (November 27) has been postponed due to “unavoidable circumstances” by a week to December 5.

The period crime thriller of a CBI officer who investigates a case which happened in the late 50's in which Mammootty is having two different looks was one of the eagerly awaited films of the year. The buzz on this Ranjith directed film is very good.

Meanwhile the postponement of the release of Paleri Manikkam has worked to the advantage of Neelathamara, which will now get a solo Bakrid release.

First Look: Mammootty in Paleri Manikyam

Mammootty dons a double role in director Ranjith's Malayalam movie Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathira Kolapathakathinte Kadha.

The mopvie is based on writer T P Rajeevan's novel. Shooting for the film has been completed in Kozhikode.

The storyline goes like this: Haridas, a private detective, is investigating the murder of a young woman, Manikyam, which happened over 50 years back.

Manikyam was killed a few days after her marriage. Haridas is assisted by Sarayu Sharma, a criminologist, in the investigation. The investigation into the killing was stopped at that time, due to the lack of convincing evidences.

Mammootty plays Haridas while Gowri Munjal (earlier seen in the Telugu film Bunny with Allu Arjun) is Sarayu Sharma and debutante Mythili is doing the character, Manikyam.

The other role that Mammootty is playing in the film is that of Ahmad Haji, a rich landlord.

Produced by Varnachitra and AVA Productions, Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathira Kolapathakathinte Kadha will have a host of fresh faces in the cast, who have been trained by experts after some rehearsal sessions.

Ranjith had gone for fresh actors as he felt that the viewers would accept them without any set images. Also in the cast are Sreenivasan, Siddique, T Damodaran and Shwetha Menon.

Manoj Pillai is the cinematographer and Sharreth the music composer.

Ranjith has scripted Devasuram, Aram Thampuran and Peruvannapurathe Visheshangal before he put on the mantle as the director as well and made films like Nandanam, Mizhi Randilum, Ravana Prabhu, Kaiyoppu and Thirakkadha among others.

Right now, he is also busy as the producer of Kerala Cafe, which has ten short films by ten directors.

Ranjit & Mammootty together again!

Writer, director and actor Ranjit is going to produce another film under his Capital Theatres banner with his favourite star Mammootty. The film has been titled Paleri Manickam - Oru Paatira Kolapathakithinte Katha .

Ranjit says: "As the title indicates it is a murder mystery. Mammootty will play the lead and the rest of the people will be from the theatre background or those who have worked in stage plays. The film is an adaption of the story by the same title published in the Mathrubhoomi weekly a few years back"

The story of the film is based on a murder that took place 51 years back (1958) at Paleri near Kozhikode. Mammootty plays a writer who comes from Delhi in search of his roots who investigates the murder.

For the first time Ranjit is going to direct a film whose script is written by somebody else. And he is going to have unknown new faces to play supporting characters in this film which will also be a different experience for the director. He has invited applicants from the stage to play the characters and those who are selected will undergo a crash course under Murali Menon drama camp.

Hats off to Ranjith for doing Paleri Manickam - Oru Paatira Kolapathakithinte Katha , based on a novel at a time when Malayalam cinema is totally away from good novel and literature.
