Mammootty launches reality show to find fresh talent
Malayalam general entertainment channel Asianet is gearing up to launch a new show to hunt for the most talented actor and actress in Kerala. Called ‘Mammootty - The Best Actor Award 2009’, the show will be based on actor Mammootty’s contribution to Malayalam cinema. Each episode feature discussions on the various characters performed by the veteran actor and the closeness of those characters in real life. The new show has gone on air July 25, 2009.
Actor Mammootty himself will declare the final winners in a grand finale to be held in Dubai during the last week of October 2009.
The contestants for the show had been shortlisted from the thousands of applications received and the final 16 contestants were selected by a panel of eminent jury comprising film directors and actors on the basis of auditions held in major cities in Kerala.
The final contestants will compete by enacting the various roles performed by Mammootty and other Malayalam actors. Mammootty’s outstanding performances as family hero, evergreen youth hero, the macho hero, the epic hero, hero of unusual characters and a hero with a humour touch would be the yardstick for the contest, according to Asianet spokesperson.
Leading Malayalam film director Siddique and popular yesteryears actress Sheela would be the permanent panel of judges. Other leading actors from the Malayalam film industry such as Jagathy Sreekumar, Siddique, Vijayaraghavan, Nedumudi Venu, Urvasi, Sreenivasan, etc., will appear as celebrity judges on the show. Scriptwriters, film directors, critics, writers, psychologists, politicians, etc., will encourage, advice and groom the contestants.
The presence of Mammooty throughout the episodes will be the major star attraction of the show. The winners will get a chance to act in movie produced by Mammooty’s own production arm Play House Pictures, besides a cash prize. The programme, to be anchored by leading TV stars Kottayam Nazir and Tini Tom, will be aired every Saturday from 9-10 pm.
