With eight films in 2009, Mammootty's on a roll

Malayalam superstar Mammootty pleased all his fans with as many as eight of his films releasing in 2009 but the actor says he was just doing his job.

The eight films that hit the screens this year were 'Love in Singapore', 'Daddy Cool', 'Eee Patanthil Bhootham', 'Loud Speaker', 'Kutty Shrank', 'Pazhassi Raja', 'Paleri Manickam' and 'Chatambi Nadu'.

While the last three films are still running to packed houses across the state, 'Kutty Shrank' was screened at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held recently in Goa and is expected to be released commercially soon.

But the superstar was modest about his work in the year gone by.

'The world has become one more year older. From my side, I will say that things went well and happiness need not be and cannot be measured about what has happened. I am doing a job and I will continue doing it in the same spirit as I have always done all these years,' Mammootty told IANS.

Besides his acting assignments, Mammootty launched his own production house called Play House, which will produce and distribute films.

The actor was also appointed brand ambassador by the Kerala Volleyball Association to promote the sport across the state.

Paleri manikyam First report

Renjiths "Paleri Manikyam Oru Pathira Kolapathakathinte Katha" is a different cinema. It has Suspense, Drama, life and Mammootty in three different roles. Another good effort from Renjith, after his creative Production Kerala Cafe. An investigative story visualized in a very different perspective.
The story telling, the characters and the backgrounds are new to Malayalam especially in an investigative suspense thriller. The investigation of Manikyam's murder is the major storyline. The storyline goes like this: Haridas, a private detective, is investigating the murder of a young woman, Manikyam, which happened over 50 years back. But it is different.

Hats off to Mammootty. He is critically outstanding by his performance. All actors specially Sreenivasan, siddique, shwetha menon and all new faces are perfectly rendered to the craftsmanship of Director Renjith.

The film is based on T.P. Rajeevan's novel, by the same name, which was serialised in a Mathrubhumi weekly. Director Renjith was fascinated by the novel's theme, which is based on a true incident that happened shortly before the first ministry of Kerala was sworn in.

Cinematography by Manoj Pillai and Music by Sharreth is in tune with the story.

Produced by A.V. Anoop & Subair under the banner of AVA Productions and Varnachithra Big Screen. PMOPK will be a good treat to serious movie lovers.
